The Solid Rock
I am the stone, rejected —
That builders would not lay;
Just cast aside, then crucified,
As heaven looked away.
I am a man of sorrows,
Acquainted with much grief.
My God, I asked to change My task,
But could not find relief.
I carried thy transgressions
Upon the cross with Me,
To cleanse thy soul and make thee whole
And set thy spirit free.
I am the one foundation —
The Church's cornerstone;
Not any block — the Solid Rock
On which she stands, alone.
If on this stone, thou falleth,
Then broken thou shalt be;
But then restored when I am Lord —
Reborn to royalty.
But if, on thee it falleth,
To force thee to thy knees,
Thou shalt be crushed and ground to dust
And scattered on the breeze.

But Jesus looked at them and said, “What then is this that is written:
‘The stone which the builders rejected,
This became the chief corner stone’?
Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces;
but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust.”
Luke 20:17-18
