Rory
Please, rest in peace my sweet Rory,
You left so soon — how can it be?
A pet, a friend, you meant so much;
You really had a human touch.
One thing I know: you will be missed
By all those people that you kissed.
You're just a dog, but not to me —
You truly were our family.
— • —
The things I'll miss? That list is long,
Which makes it harder to move on.
I'll miss those eyes — those big brown eyes.
I'll miss the way you lunged at flies.
That goofy smirk and fluffy tail,
that kept on wagging without fail.
You were so fast — you were a blur,
I'll simply miss the way things were.
— • —
You spent most days curled up in bed;
With any noise you'd cock your head
In hopes that we were back from work.
That is our dog — you had your quirk.
You'd spin, you'd dance and jump with glee
to simply go outside and pee.
You'll always be that special girl
that helped me in this cruel, cruel world.
— • —
I'll miss those times when I would hide;
You wouldn't come — I'd wonder why.
I'd try and come up with a clue
And that is when I'd yell for you.
Nonetheless it was the same,
'Cause my sweet Rory never came.
I'd always laugh at what I'd find:
You chewing on that dang raw hide.
— • —
We'd take you in the car to stores;
That back left seat was always yours.
You never barked and rarely whined.
There was no bone you couldn't find.
There were some things you wouldn't do
But really that's what made you, you.
I'm glad I got to call you mine;
I'll truly cherish our shared time.
— • —
Out on that porch you'd sit so high —
You watch it all from earth to sky.
You'd love to run and jump and play;
To be outside that made your day.
You made us smile, laugh and cry —
It makes no sense you had to die.
Life's so strange when there's no you.
These memories will have to do.
— • —
It's hard to know why things are done,
but in this case nobody won.
Regret and guilt run through our head,
But that won't change your empty bed.
Our blueprints changed — they've been made new;
Those future plans were planned with you.
You left us to the world above —
Our children now won't know your love.
— • —
A time will come when Sadie knows
Her friend is gone and she's alone.
She's gonna realize somethings wrong
When we don't bring Rory along.
I truly think that as she lay,
She thinks about those days you'd play.
The day you'll meet will be her last,
But until then you're Sadie's past.
— • —
This empty house I cannot bare,
The only trace is all your hair.
One day our paths — I'm sure they'll blend,
until that day I'll miss my friend.
While I'm not there to pat your head,
I know that grandma's there instead.
Until that day when you see me,
Please, rest in peace, my sweet Rory.
