Psalm 33
Rejoice in the LORD! Sing with joy, noble choir!
How right for you righteous to sing!
Give thanks to the LORD with a tune from the lyre,
make music with harps of ten strings.
And sing unto him a new anthem and choral;
let strings blend with shouts in the air.
The word of the LORD is both righteous and moral;
and everything he does is fair.
He loves what is just and what he's consecrated;
the earth is replete with his love.
The heavens, just by the LORD's word, were created;
his breath formed the stars high above.
He gathers in jars raging waves of the ocean;
the depths of the seas have been stored.
Let earth fear Jehovah with utter devotion;
the world stands in awe of the LORD.
He spoke into being the world's foundations;
it suddenly was — on command.
The LORD has frustrated the schemes of the nations;
whatever the people have planned.
The plans of the LORD stand forever and always;
the thoughts of his heart stand alone.
How blest is the nation whose God remains Yahweh,
whose people he chose as his own!
The LORD, from the heavens, looks down and appraises,
beholding mankind since their birth;
from where he's enthroned, he observes, and he gazes
on all who inhabit the earth.
He's fashioned each heart and has great understanding
of all things they've done and have said.
No king can be saved by the ones he's commanding;
no warrior can save his own head.
A horse brings false hope in those battles he's steered in;
its strength cannot save in the end.
The eyes of the LORD are on those who have feared him;
on your steadfast love they depend.
Delivered from death, has their soul been protected
when famines have ravaged their field.
We patiently wait for the LORD is expected,
for he is our help and our shield.
You make our hearts gladdened and joy is upon us,
because your name's holy and true.
Let your loving-kindness and mercy rest on us,
for we put our hope, LORD, in you.
