Psalm 34
A Psalm of David, when he feigned madness before Abimelech, who drove him away and he departed.
Forever I'll bless the LORD, praising him always;
as long as my mouth has a voice.
My soul will boast loudly to glorify Yahweh;
let all who are humble rejoice.
Come, let us proclaim the LORD's greatness — he's worthy;
together, let's praise him indeed.
I earnestly sought out the LORD who then heard me;
from all of my fears I've been freed.
Those with me had also looked to him and glistened;
no shadow of shame crossed their face.
This poor man cried out and the LORD surely listened,
and I was delivered by grace.
An army of angels stand ready, surrounding
those fearing the LORD — safe from harm.
Oh, taste him and see that the LORD is astounding!
What joy to be safe in his arms!
O saints, fear the LORD, and you'll never go wanting;
there's nothing that you'll ever lack.
Though lions go hungry sometimes without hunting,
the LORD will hold nothing good back.
My children, come listen to me and acquire
the nature of reverent fear.
For whom is the man who loves life and desires
the best of his days to appear?
Your tongue — keep from evil, your lips — keep from speaking
in lies and deceit, causing strife.
Depart from all evil, do good things by seeking
real peace and pursue it for life.
The eyes of the LORD, they watch over the godly;
the ears of the LORD, cries for grace.
The face of the LORD burns against sinners hotly,
erasing from earth every trace.
The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears what's spoken;
those lives that are troubled, unchained.
The LORD's very near to those hearts which are broken;
those souls that are crushed, he's sustained.
Though righteous men struggle with troubles they weather,
the LORD will console every ache.
The LORD keeps the bones of the righteous together,
ensuring that none of them break.
The wicked will surely be met with affliction;
those hating the righteous, consumed.
Those serving the LORD will receive his protection;
those not in his refuge are doomed.
Forever I'll bless the LORD, praising him always;
as long as my mouth has a voice.
My soul will boast loudly to glorify Yahweh;
