Psalm 144
A Psalm of David.
Praise be to Jehovah, my rock evermore,
who trains hands and fingers for battle and war.
He's my loving ally, my fortress that's sealed,
my tower of safety, deliverer, shield,
in whom I take refuge and find liberty,
who makes my own people submit unto me.
LORD, what are we humans that you'd notice us,
mere mortals you'd think of and make such a fuss?
For humans are naught but a mere breath of air;
his days, but a shadow that moves here to there.
Now, open the heavens Jehovah, come down,
touch mountains, reduce them to smoke blown around.
Flash lightning and scatter my enemy hoard;
and hurl your arrows and rout them, O LORD.
Reach down from on high your hand to me below,
save me from deep waters and hand of my foe,
whose mouths are so full of their lies and deceit;
the oaths of their right hand are lies they repeat.
O God, I will sing you a song that is new,
and make, on the ten-stringed harp, music for you,
to him whose salvation to kings has been made,
saved David, his own, from the sword's evil blade.
Deliver me out of my enemy's clutch,
whose mouths and right hands destroy all that they touch.
May our young sons flourish as green plants when grown;
our daughters, carved pillars so gracefully shown.
Our barns filled with all kinds of produce to store,
our flocks bring forth thousands and ten thousands more,
our oxen are laden, no walls need repair,
our people are safe, no alarms in the square.
Those living like this will have such great reward!
How blest are the people whose God is the LORD!
Praise be to Jehovah, my rock evermore,
who trains hands and fingers for battle and war.
