Proverbs 16
The plans and reflections of man are his own,
but answers he gives are Jehovah's, alone.
To man, all his ways will appear to be wise,
but motives are weighed and viewed through the LORD's eyes.
Commit to Jehovah whatever you do,
and he will make your plans successful for you.
The LORD has made all things for reasons he knows,
the wicked yet live for the day they're disposed.
The LORD detests pride and the arrogant one,
but know that their punishment yet will be done.
By love and through faith, sin's atoned in our heart,
by fearing the LORD, evil's bade to depart.
Whenever man's ways are found pleasing the LORD,
he makes so his foes live in peaceful accord.
Tis better with little and righteousness gained,
than wealthy yet having injustice attained.
The heart of a man plans his pathways ahead,
but Yahweh establishes his steps instead.
The lips of a king speak with wisdom, divine,
his mouth must not ever betray or malign.
The LORD demands scales that are honest and just,
for he sets the standards of fairness and trust.
A king cannot tolerate evil and wrong,
since justice is what makes a government strong.
The lips of the righteous are pleasing to kings;
they value and love those who say honest things.
A king, who is angry, can kill when enraged;
a wise man will keep his king's fury assuaged.
There's life in the light of the face of the king;
his favor, like clouds bringing rain in the spring.
Get wisdom — for it is far better than gold!
Choose insight — it's far above silver's great hold.
The path of the righteous keeps evil at bay,
whoever would keep his soul watches his way.
Preceding destruction is ego and pride,
and arrogance leads to a fall one can't hide.
Far better to be low with people in need,
than sharing the spoils with the prideful, indeed.
Whoever heeds guidance will find their success;
and trusting Jehovah will bring happiness.
The one who is wise shall be known as discerned,
and pleasant speech causes more things to be learned.
Good sense is a fountain of life to the wise,
but guiding the fool is a fool's exercise.
The heart of the wise makes for eloquent speech,
and adds to the learning their lips strive to teach.
Kind words are like honey — like honeycomb found,
sweet taste for the soul that makes your body sound.
Sometimes there are pathways that seem right to men,
but they are paths leading to death in the end.
A laborer's hunger will help him to thrive,
his stomach that's empty providing his drive.
A person who's worthless plots mischief and shame,
the words on his lips are a fiery flame.
A contrary man stirs up conflict and strife,
and gossip will separate best friends in life.
A violent man lures friends in his neighborhood,
and leads them down paths that are not any good.
Be careful of those who would wink and then grin,
their smirk says they'll bring about evil and sin.
Gray hair is a crown and a glorious sight,
that's worn by those living a righteous-filled life.
A patient man's better than men of renown;
the self-controlled man, not those seizing a town.
The lot might be cast and the dice may be rolled,
but Yahweh determines how all things unfold.
but answers he gives are Jehovah's, alone.
