Proverbs 15
An answer that's gentle will turn wrath away,
but anger's stirred up with harsh words that you say.
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge to all,
but mouths of the foolish spew folly with gall.
The eyes of Jehovah can see everywhere,
observing both evil and good people there.
Soft words of the tongue are like life-giving trees,
but tongues of perversion crush spirits with ease.
A father's instruction, the fool will despise,
but he who will heed such correction is wise.
The house of the righteous holds treasures so vast,
but wealth of the wicked will not ever last.
The lips of the wise will have knowledge to share,
but hearts of the fools will be empty and bare.
The LORD hates the sacrifice wicked prepare,
but he will delight in the upright man's prayer.
The way of the wicked is shown the LORD's wrath,
but he loves the ones who pursue the right path.
Chastisement is harsh when the way is passed by,
whoever despises correction will die.
Both death and destruction are known by the LORD,
how much more the hearts of mankind are explored.
The scorners despise those correcting them so,
avoiding the wisdom that wiser men know.
A heart that is joyful makes glad faces flushed,
but sorrowful hearts make the spirit feel crushed.
The heart that discerns seeks out knowledge to gain,
but mouths of the foolish eat folly in vain.
The days of the troubled are wretchedly bad,
but feasts with no end fill the hearts of the glad.
Far better with little and fear of the LORD
than treasures with turmoil to be your reward.
A dinner of herbs served with love on your plate
is better than steak that's surrounded with hate.
A hot-tempered man stirs up conflict and strife,
but one slow to anger calms quarrels in life.
The way of the sluggard is thorny and hard,
but paths for the just are wide open and tarred.
A wise son brings gladness to his father's face,
but fools add contempt to their mothers' disgrace.
For folly brings joy to the one without sense,
but those with discernment walk straight as a fence.
Without consultation, then plans fail, indeed;
but many advisors will help one succeed.
A man will find joy in a fitting reply,
a word spoke in season is hard to deny.
Life's path will lead upward for wise men to go,
to keep them away from the hell found below.
The LORD won't allow scorners' houses to stand,
but he will establish the poor widow's land.
The thoughts of the wicked — the LORD can't endure,
but he will delight in those words that are pure.
The greedy will bring to their household great strife,
but he who detests bribes will live a full life.
The just ponders words before any are said,
but mouths of the wicked spew evil instead.
Jehovah is far from the wicked out there,
but he hears the righteous petition and prayer.
It does a heart good to see joy one can't hide,
and good news refreshes the body inside.
Whoever gives ear to reproof and complies,
forever will dwell in the midst of the wise.
Neglecting instruction is hating one's soul,
but gained understanding is had, on the whole.
The fear of the LORD teaches wisdom, indeed,
and honor will follow humility's lead.
but anger's stirred up with harsh words that you say.
