Proverbs 10
A Collection of Solomon's Proverbs
The proverbs of Solomon:
A wise son will bring to his father, great joy,
but his mother's grief will be her foolish boy.
Your ill-gotten treasures will be profitless,
but death can be vanquished with your righteousness.
The righteous, from hunger, Jehovah will save,
but he will deny what the wicked men crave.
The one who has idle hands soon will be poor,
but diligent hands makes one wealthy for sure.
The son who is wise fills his summer with work,
but sleeping through harvest — that son is a jerk.
The godly are showered with blessings, revealed,
but words of the wicked bring violence, concealed.
How blest are the righteous in remembered thought,
but names of the wicked are quickly forgot.
The wise heart receives a commandment with grace,
but chattering fools will fall flat on their face.
The simple-led life is secure and serene,
but fraudulent lives are exposed to be seen.
The person who winks causes sorrow and gloom,
and blithering fools come to ruin and doom.
The mouth of the good is a fountain of life,
but words of the wicked hide violence and strife.
Man's hatred is how strife and quarrels begin,
but love overcomes every manner of sin.
Oh, wisdom is found on the lips of discerned,
but rods to the backs of the senseless are earned.
The wise people treasure the knowledge they gain,
but mouths of the foolish bring ruin and pain.
The wealth of the rich is their fortress, secure,
but poverty ruins and crushes the poor.
The wage for the just is the good life they're in,
but fruit of the wicked is squandered in sin.
Those heeding instruction are on the right way,
but those who ignore it lead others astray.
The one who hides hate with a mouthful of lies
and he who spreads slander are fools to despise.
For sin will not end with so many words flung,
but he who is wise will keep hold of his tongue.
The tongue of the just is like silver that's pure,
but that of the wicked is not worth manure.
The numbers the righteous have helped are immense,
but fools are destroyed by their sheer lack of sense.
The LORD will give blessings, enriching your purse,
and with it he adds neither sorrow nor curse.
The fool will delight in vile schemes to devise,
but wisdom's a pleasure for one who is wise.
Whatever the wicked dread happens at last,
but hopes of the godly are granted, when asked.
When whirlwinds pass, then the wicked are gone,
but righteous men have a firm base to stand on.
Foul vinegar taste and as smoke in eyes burns,
so, too, is the fool whose employer soon learns.
The fear of Jehovah will add to your years,
cut short are the wicked, their lives and careers.
The hope of the righteous brings joy to their lives,
but hope for the wicked man never survives.
The way of Jehovah is strength for the wise,
but ruin to those who spread evil and lies.
The righteous shall never be moved by one's hand,
but those who are wicked won't dwell in the land.
The righteous speak wisdom, producing much fruit,
but wicked tongues soon will be silenced and mute.
The lips of the just say what's fitting and wise,
but mouths of the wicked spew villainous lies.
