Proverbs 9
The Way of Wisdom
Now, wisdom's constructed a house by her hand,
and she has carved out seven columns that stand.
Her wine has been mixed and she's slaughtered her beasts;
she's setting her tables to host a great feast.
She's sent out her maidens and servants with calls,
inviting all men, from the city's high walls:
Let all who are simple come enter my gates.
To those who lack sense and good judgement, she states:
Come, eat of my bread and the food I have fixed,
and drink of my wine that I've mingled and mixed.
Leave folly and your simple ways, and you'll live;
pursue understanding and insight I give.
Rebuking a mocker will get one rebuked;
reproofing the wicked will get one reproofed.
Correct not the scoffer lest their wrath is faced;
correct, though, the wise and be loved and embraced.
Instruct one who's wise, and he'll be still more wise;
and teach one who's just, and their progress will rise.
The fear of the LORD is how wisdom will start;
to know understanding, know God in your heart.
Through wisdom, your days will increase and be more;
more years to your life is what you'll have in store.
If you become wise, the reward is your own;
if wisdom is scorned, you will bear it alone.

The Way of Folly
The woman name Folly is noisy and brash;
she's simple, naïve, and knows nothing but trash.
She sits by the door of her house, looking down;
enthroned on a hill that's the highest in town.
She calls to the men who pass by every day,
but minding their business, they go on their way.
Let all who are simple, come turn here to me.
To him who has no understanding, says she:
The water that's stolen is oddly more sweet;
bread eaten in secret is really a treat.
But they do not know of the dead in her rooms;
her previous guests are now rotting in tombs.
