Then I Crossed the Mind of God
[Verse 1]
He cried out in his anguish, Father, take this cup from me!
If there could be some other way, I beg You — let it be!
Then earnestly he whispers, Father, let your will be done.
What parent could ignore the pleas of such a tortured son?
He could have sent His angels down to bring His child home . . .
[Chorus]
But then I crossed the mind of God — He must have seen my face.
Remembering that long ago He'd promised me His grace.
He chose between His son and me for all eternity:
God had to turn His back on him to turn His heart towards me.
[Verse 2]
I spat on him and beat him and I mocked his agony;
Drove spikes into his hands and feet and robbed his dignity.
He cried out with complete despair, My God, where are you? Where?
His sufferings were far more than a parent's heart should bear.
