Take My Mantle
Before Elijah went to heaven
In a chariot of fire
He told Elisha he would give him
Anything that he desired.
A double portion of your spirit,
Cried Elisha, from his heart.
If you can see me disappear — it
Shall be yours when I depart.
And when Elijah went away,
Elisha thought he heard him say . . .
Take my mantle 'round your shoulders
Wear your faith upon your sleeve;
Tests can make your passions bolder,
Trials refine what you believe.
Speak a word to move a mountain;
Whisper soft to calm the sea.
Grace and strength through Christ is boundless —
Take this cloak of faith from me.
(Take this cloak of faith from me)
What can I give that could prepare you
For a life of righteousness?
The world is full of lies to dare you
To achieve a life far less.
A birthright is not found in college —
Faith is not for those degreed;
The fear of God is all the knowledge
That your soul will ever need.
Take heart, dear child, when you're alone
these words may help you carry on . . .
Take my mantle 'round your shoulders
Wear your faith upon your sleeve;
Tests can make your passions bolder,
Trials refine what you believe.
Speak a word to move a mountain;
Whisper soft to calm the sea.
Grace and strength through Christ is boundless —
Take this cloak of faith from me.
