The Armor of God
The world is such a sinful place
Since Eden and The Fall;
With daily snares and traps to face —
Temptations great and small.
Yet by God’s help and endless grace
We’ve strength to face them all.
We wrestle not with flesh and bone,
Nor can we giants slay.
But demon forces — Satan’s own —
Attacking night and day.
We cannot build high walls of stone
To keep this foe at bay.
Our sole defense is constant prayer,
And armor from the Lord:
We have the belt of truth to wear —
The scripture is our sword —
Our shield is faith, for in the air
Fly arrows from the horde —
Our helmet is salvation and
Our mail is righteousness —
Our feet stand not in shifting sand,
But solid readiness.
Equipped, we’re able then to stand
Against all wickedness.
The world will be a sinful place
Until You come again.
I pray, Lord, when I see Your face
I'm in full armor then;
Well-worn and used — without a trace
Of newness, Lord. Amen.
