Psalm 83

A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.

O God, be not silent, nor be hard of hearing;
and neither be quiet nor still.
Behold, all your enemies' raging and uproar;
they rise up, imposing their will.

With cunning, they scheme against your chosen people;
conspire against those you adore:
Come, let us destroy Israel as a nation,
so, their name's remembered no more.

With one mind they've plotted and counseled together,
and formed an accord against you:
the Edomite people and Ishmaelites gathered
with Moab and Hagarenes, too;

with Gebal and Ammon and Amalek nations,
Philistia, Tyre — they plot.
Assyria also has joined the alliance
to aid the descendants of Lot.
Selah [Interlude]

Like Midian, Sisera, Jabin at Kishon —
their punishment must be profound!
For they were destroyed when they perished at Endor;
their corpses were dung for the ground.

Make nobles like Oreb and Zeeb and their princes,
Zalmunna and Zebah, drop dead.
They said, Let us seize and possess God's rich pastures
and use them for ourselves instead.

God, make them like dust that is whirled and scattered,
like chaff blown away in a breeze.
As fire consumes mighty trees of a forest,
as flames blaze on mountains with ease,

pursue them in your whirlwind and your tempest,
and chase them in your hurricane.
Disgrace them and shame them until they are humbled
enough, LORD, to worship your name.

Let them be ashamed and confounded forever;
may they be disgraced and then die.
Let them learn that your name alone is Jehovah;
on earth, that you are the Most High.
