Psalm 82
A Psalm of Asaph.
God has taken his place in the heavenly council,
to deliver his judgement on rulers and gods.
Oh, how long will you hand down unrighteous decisions
that will favor the wicked man's outcomes and odds?
Selah [Interlude]
Provide justice to those who are needy and orphaned;
and be fair to the helpless and kind to the poor.
Oh, unshackle the destitute, weak and afflicted
from the grip of the wicked they meekly endure.
The oppressors know nothing! They wander in darkness,
while the whole world is shaken and stirred to its core.
I said, You are all gods, to these princes and rulers,
you are sons of Almighty; the children he bore.
But you'll certainly die as all men who are mortal,
and you'll fall like the rest of the earth's princes do.
God, arise! Judge the nations, in aid of your people!
For all nations will one day belong, LORD, to you.
God has taken his place in the heavenly council,
