Psalm 70
For the choirmaster. Of David. To bring remembrance.
O God, quickly come! Rescue me, LORD, with haste!
May those who would kill me be wholly disgraced!
May you repel those who would wish my defeat;
those saying, Aha!, make them shamed and retreat.
Let any who seek you rejoice and elate;
who love your salvation, say, Let God be great!
But I'm poor and needy, O God, speed your aid;
my helper and savior, LORD, be not delayed.
O God, quickly come! Rescue me, LORD, with haste!
May those who would kill me be wholly disgraced!
May you repel those who would wish my defeat;
those saying, Aha!, make them shamed and retreat.
Let any who seek you rejoice and elate;
who love your salvation, say, Let God be great!
But I'm poor and needy, O God, speed your aid;
my helper and savior, LORD, be not delayed.
Psalm 70 is nearly identical to Psalm 40: 13-17. Maybe that is why the subtitle says to bring remembrance. I resisted the temptation to look back to see what I had written in Psalm 40 while I was writing it, which didn't take long.
Be pleased, LORD, to rescue and save me, I pray!
Come quickly, LORD, hasten to help me today!
Those seeking my life, be confused and ashamed;
those wishing me harm, be repelled and defamed.
Let those who would cry out, Aha, you've been caught!,
be wholly ashamed for the trouble they've wrought.
May those who would seek you be glad and rejoice;
shout, Great is the LORD!, those you've saved, in one voice.
Regarding myself, I'm as poor as you'll find,
and yet I am constantly on the LORD's mind.
For you are my helper, my savior and stay;
deliver me, O my God, without delay.
