Psalm 57
For the choirmaster. To the tune of “Do Not Destroy.”
A Miktam of David, when he fled from Saul into the cave.
Have mercy on me, God, have mercy, I pray!
I look for protection in you.
Your wings cast a shadow, a refuge to stay
until all these dangers pass through.
I cry out to God Most High — God, on his throne,
fulfilling my purpose to be.
He reaches from heaven to save me, alone,
rebuking those trampling me.
Selah [Interlude]
God's mercy and truth are made known.
My soul is surrounded by lions so fierce;
I lie down with those set on fire.
Man's teeth are like spears and sharp arrows that pierce,
their tongues cut like swords, honed and dire.
Exalted above highest heavens and space;
God, cover the earth with your glory and grace!
My enemies spread out before me a net,
and I was distressed over it.
They've dug a deep hole in my pathway — and yet,
they've fallen themselves in their pit.
Selah [Interlude]
My heart, God, is steadfast; is steadfast, my heart.
I'll sing and a melody make!
Awaken, my glory! Awake, lute and harp!
The dawn with a song will I wake.
I'll thank you, O LORD, let the nations all hear;
I'll sing of your praises aloud.
Your mercy and love reach the heavenly sphere,
your faithfulness touches the cloud.
Exalted above highest heavens and space;
God, cover the earth with your glory and grace!
