Psalm 5
For the choir director. With flutes. A Psalm of David.
Oh, listen to my words, LORD; consider how I groan.
Examine, now, my sighing.
Give ear to my voice crying;
you are my King, my God, and I pray to you, alone.
You hear me in the morning, as regular as dew,
I pray with expectation.
You have no toleration
for wickedness nor folly; no evil dwells with you.
You cannot stand the boastful, the arrogant and cheat,
those heeding sin's desires.
Eradicating liars,
the LORD abhors the violent; hates those who love deceit.
Because your love's unfailing I come before you now,
into your temple, holy.
I worship you, LORD, solely;
respectfully adoring, in deepest awe I bow.
Oh, lead me, LORD, to safety, for evil lies in wait.
My enemies are waiting,
my foes anticipating;
your righteousness before me will make my pathway straight.
Their words cannot be trusted; their heart is filled with dung.
And like a grave that's yawning,
their throat is foul and fawning;
their flattery is practiced and dripping from their tongue.
O God, declare them guilty! By their own traps, be quelled.
Because their sins are mounting,
and well beyond all counting,
remove them all forever; against you they've rebelled.
May all who take your refuge forever use their voice
to sing and shout and blend them.
You shelter and defend them;
may those who love your name, LORD, exult you and rejoice.
You surely bless the righteous with your great favors, LORD.
You put your shield around them,
protect them and surround them,
with gracious loving-kindness, and peace as their reward.
