Psalm 37
Of David.
Fret not over those who are evil, nor worry;
take care not to envy the ones who do wrong.
Like grass, they will wither and fade in a hurry,
like flowers in springtime, they'll die before long.
But trust in the LORD and do good as you live in
his pastures of faithfulness that he imparts.
Delight in the LORD for the things he has given
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit to the LORD everything you are doing;
trust also in him, what you ask will be done.
He'll make your rewards like the dawn's rays renewing,
and your vindication like bright noonday sun.
Be quiet and still in the LORD, for he's restful;
and patiently wait, let him act as he deems.
Don't worry when others become more successful,
nor fret when they carry out their wicked schemes.
Refrain from your anger and your indignation;
your fretting will only let evil expand.
The wicked will one day face their termination;
so, wait on the LORD to inherit the land.
The wicked on earth will one day simply leave it;
you'll search but won't find them — they just won't be there.
The meek will inherit the land and retrieve it
to live in abundance with peace everywhere.
The wicked plot evil against righteous beings,
while grinding their teeth in their malice and hate.
Jehovah will mock them and laugh since he's seeing
their judgement is coming that's sealing their fate.
The wicked have drawn out their swords and are eager
to bend back their bows with their targets in sight;
to bring down the poor, the oppressed and the meager,
and slaughter the godly whose ways are upright.
The sword they are wielding will pierce their own body,
their bow will be broken and lay with those felled.
Far better the little bit kept by the godly
than all of the riches the wicked have held.
The arms of the wicked, soon broken, will crumble;
the righteous and godly — the good LORD sustains.
The LORD knows the days of the blameless and humble;
their birthright and heritage ever remain.
They won't be disgraced in their withering hours;
when famines arrive, they'll have more in that day.
The LORD's foes will perish like fields full of flowers;
consumed, they will vanish like smoke blown away.
The wicked will borrow, unable to square it;
the righteous show mercy in giving with grace.
For those whom he blesses, the earth they'll inherit,
but those whom he's cursed, he'll destroy and erase.
The steps of a man are established and ordered
because of the LORD who delights in that man.
Although he may stumble, he'll still be supported,
for he'll be sustained since the LORD holds his hand.
Once young but now older and I have discovered
in all of my years I've not seen nor heard said,
the godly have not been forsaken nor suffered,
nor are their descendants seen begging for bread.
The godly have always been generous lenders;
their seed is a blessing, their children are blessed.
Depart from your evil, do good to engender
a life lived forever and ever at rest.
The LORD loves the faithful and just and will never
forsake nor abandon the righteous and pure.
His saints are preserved and protected forever,
but seed of the wicked will never endure.
The LORD gives his people the earth to inherit,
forever to dwell in its mountains and dales.
The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom's own merits,
his tongue teaches justice and truth never fail.
The law of his God's in his heart, permeating;
his steps do not falter, his feet do not slip.
In ambush the wicked are watching and waiting
to slaughter the righteous in their poisoned grip.
The LORD keeps the wicked from ever succeeding,
and lets not the just be condemned nor be damned.
But wait on the LORD, follow where he is leading;
and he will exalt you and give you the land.
Whenever the wicked are cut off — you'll view it.
I've seen them sprout up like tall trees from the ground.
Yet they passed away and were gone ere I knew it;
although I would search, they could never be found.
Consider the blameless and those consecrated;
a future awaits those who seek after peace.
All wicked transgressors will be devastated;
all hope of a future for sinners will cease.
The LORD saves the righteous; he is their salvation.
The LORD helps and rescues from danger, the just;
he helps and delivers them from ruination,
because they seek shelter in him with their trust.
Fret not over those who are evil, nor worry;
