Psalm 3
A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.
How many are my foes, LORD!
How great that number grows, LORD!
So many, with my back against the wall.
They say, with jubilation,
There will be no salvation,
there is no help from God for him at all.
Selah [Interlude]
Your shield, LORD, is around me,
your glory thus surrounds me,
you lift my head up high and always will.
I begged the LORD for mercy,
I cried out and he's heard me
and answered from his sacred, holy hill.
Selah [Interlude]
I lay down badly shaken,
sleep soundly till I waken,
Jehovah keeps me safe — in him I hide.
I won't fear those who hunt me,
though tens of thousands want me
and enemies surround on every side.
Arise, O LORD, be ruthless.
Make my opponents toothless,
and make their bite an empty howl instead.
Salvation comes from you, LORD.
The only one and true LORD.
Let blessings fall upon your people's heads!
