Psalm 124
A song of ascents. Of David.
Oh, what if the LORD had not been on our side,
let Israel say and repeat:
Oh, what if the LORD had not been on our side,
when men rose and wished our defeat.
Then they would have swallowed us all up alive,
when their wrath was kindled like coals.
The waters and floods would have swept us away,
as billows swept over our souls.
In furious torrents we could have been drowned,
our souls could have been pulled beneath.
How blest is the LORD who protects us from harm,
as food or as prey for their teeth.
Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare;
the net has been torn and we're free.
Our help's in the name of the LORD who made earth,
and maker of heaven is he.
Oh, what if the LORD had not been on our side,
let Israel say and repeat:
Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare;
the net has been torn and we're free.
Our help's in the name of the LORD who made earth,
and maker of heaven is he.
