Proverbs 29
Those often rebuked, but who don't really care
will suddenly break with no hope of repair.
When godly men thrive, then the people are glad,
but wicked who rule will make everyone sad.
A wise son adds joy to his old father's mirth,
but visiting harlots depletes his net worth.
By justice, the king has established his ground,
but greed and corruption bring his kingdom down.
To flatter your neighbor is simply deceit,
like spreading a net that entangles his feet.
The wicked are trapped by transgressions of choice,
but those who are righteous can sing and rejoice.
The righteous consider the rights of the poor,
but wicked regard naught beyond their front door.
A scorner can set a whole city aflame,
but wise men calm anger and wrath can they tame.
When wise men take fools into court to contest,
between the fools' laughter and rage, there's no rest.
The bloodthirsty men hate the ones without blame,
but righteous men seek out the souls of the same.
A fool vents his anger and empties his mind,
but wise are restrained and will keep theirs confined.
The ruler who listens to nothing but lies,
will have his officials become scandelized.
The despot and poor are alike in this guise:
the LORD provides light into both pairs of eyes.
A king who rules fairly, the poor, with his might,
will rule them forever with no end in sight.
A rod and reproof will give wisdom a start,
but children, untrained, will break their mother's heart.
When wicked men thrive, so their sins will abound,
but those who are righteous will see them knocked down.
Correct, then, your son, and he'll give to you rest,
yes, he'll bring delight to your soul in your breast.
With no revelation, they're out of control,
but those who would keep the law, blest is their soul.
You can't train a servant with mere words, alone,
though they understood you, you wouldn't have known.
You've noticed the one who speaks out before thought?
More hope of a fool than what that one has got!
A servant that's pampered from youth until now,
will one day expect to be family somehow.
A man full of rage stirs up conflict and strife,
and hot-tempered men sin more often in life.
The man will be humbled who's puffed up with pride,
but those who are lowly will be glorified.
A partner in crime is his own enemy,
a sworn oath is heard, but in silence sits he.
The fear of a man is a snare that assails,
but he who trusts Yahweh is safe and prevails.
So many have sought the king's favor and face,
but from the LORD only comes justice and grace.
The wicked are loathed in the righteous man's eyes,
as just by the unjust men truly despise.
