Proverbs 28
The wicked, though no one pursues, run away,
the righteous, as bold as a lion are they.
So many will rule in the land that's impure,
but one man of knowledge will make it endure.
When poor men oppress both the poor and the low,
it's like the fierce rains causing crops not to grow.
The ones who forsake the law, praise wicked men,
but those who would heed it, contend against them.
Of justice, the wicked know nothing about,
those seeking the LORD know it inside and out.
Tis better the poor walk the narrow and straight,
than rich on the paths of perversion and hate.
One keeping the law is a wise son, indeed,
but parents of gluttons are shamed by their seed.
Whoever gains wealth by extortion and greed,
collects for those kinder to people in need.
If anyone turns a deaf ear to my word,
then even their prayers will be vain and unheard.
Whoever leads righteous and good men astray,
will they themselves fall in the same traps they lay;
the just will inherit God's goodness one day.
The rich man is wise if just through his own eyes,
but poor understand and see through his disguise.
When godly succeed, there's elation and pride,
when wicked take charge, then the people will hide.
Concealing transgressions, one cannot succeed,
confess and renounce them brings mercy, indeed.
Those fearing Jehovah will always be blessed,
but hearts that grow hard will be sorely oppressed.
The lion that's hungry, the rampaging bear,
the wicked who rules — let the poor folk beware.
When rulers lack judgement, those ruled are aggrieved,
but those hating greed will have long life achieved.
If any are burdened with blood that he's shed,
he will not find refuge until he is dead;
let no one support him, not even a shred.
Whoever walks blamelessly will then be saved,
but ruin will end the perverse and depraved.
Those tilling their land will have food to excess,
but empty pursuits leave one poor with much less.
The faithful man always has blessings ahead,
those gaining wealth quick will be punished instead.
To show partiality's not good or nice,
yet men, for a mere piece of bread — not a slice —
will do what is wrong without them thinking twice.
The greedy are eager for wealth and its perks,
and they're unaware their own poverty lurks.
Rebuking a man may bring favor to you,
more so than a flattering tongue ever knew.
Those robbing their parents and think it's okay,
are like those who murder and take what they may.
The arrogant man stirs up conflict and strife,
but he who trusts Yahweh will live a full life.
The fool will believe in his heart and his wit,
but those who walk wisely are safe from the pit.
The ones who would give to the poor will not lack,
but closing one's eyes will have curses come back.
When wicked take charge, then the people will hide,
and in their demise are the just multiplied.
