Proverbs 24
Saying 20
Don't envy the wicked, degenerate men,
nor have a desire to be around them;
for their hearts plot violence, conspire and plan,
their lips speak of mischief of their fellow man.
nor have a desire to be around them;
for their hearts plot violence, conspire and plan,
their lips speak of mischief of their fellow man.
Saying 21
By wisdom a house is built on solid ground,
and by understanding, established and sound;
by knowledge, the rooms have been filled and they hold
the pleasures and treasures of riches untold.
and by understanding, established and sound;
by knowledge, the rooms have been filled and they hold
the pleasures and treasures of riches untold.
Saying 22
The man who is wise, over strength, will prevail,
when knowledge meets power, that man cannot fail.
Without sound advice there's no war to be waged,
and victory's won when advisors are saged.
when knowledge meets power, that man cannot fail.
Without sound advice there's no war to be waged,
and victory's won when advisors are saged.
Saying 23
For wisdom's too lofty for fools to attain,
they'll sit at the gate, but in silence remain.
they'll sit at the gate, but in silence remain.
Saying 24
Whoever plots evil will always be known
as one who deceives and a rogue to the bone.
The schemes of the fool are both folly and sin,
and mockers are loathed and detested by men.
as one who deceives and a rogue to the bone.
The schemes of the fool are both folly and sin,
and mockers are loathed and detested by men.
Saying 25
If you, on the day of adversity, fall,
then you are too weak and your strength is too small.
Deliver the ones being led to their doom;
and save those which death is about to consume.
Don't use the excuse of, We surely knew not!
Will not the One weighing your heart know each thought?
Is he not aware of each secret that lurks?
Will we not be rendered for all of our works?
then you are too weak and your strength is too small.
Deliver the ones being led to their doom;
and save those which death is about to consume.
Don't use the excuse of, We surely knew not!
Will not the One weighing your heart know each thought?
Is he not aware of each secret that lurks?
Will we not be rendered for all of our works?
Saying 26
Eat honey, my son, for it tastes good to eat,
the honeycomb drippings are ever so sweet.
For wisdom is honey the soul will enjoy,
if found, there's a future hope none can destroy.
the honeycomb drippings are ever so sweet.
For wisdom is honey the soul will enjoy,
if found, there's a future hope none can destroy.
Saying 27
Don't lurk like a thief near the home of the right,
and don't raid the house where they sleep through the night.
The godly may trip seven times, but get up,
but one single stumble will end the corrupt.
and don't raid the house where they sleep through the night.
The godly may trip seven times, but get up,
but one single stumble will end the corrupt.
Saying 28
Rejoice not, nor gloat when your foe's fallen down,
nor let your heart gladden when he's on the ground;
lest Yahweh will notice and be so annoyed
that he'll turn from those men that should be destoyed.
nor let your heart gladden when he's on the ground;
lest Yahweh will notice and be so annoyed
that he'll turn from those men that should be destoyed.
Saying 29
Fret not since the evil men still are alive,
nor envy the wicked men who seem to thrive;
for there is no future that evil men hold,
the wicked's lamps will be snuffed out and grow cold.
nor envy the wicked men who seem to thrive;
for there is no future that evil men hold,
the wicked's lamps will be snuffed out and grow cold.
Saying 30
My son, fear Jehovah, as well as the king,
and join not the rebels who'd change everything,
for sudden disaster will be their reward;
what ruin shall come from the king and the LORD?
and join not the rebels who'd change everything,
for sudden disaster will be their reward;
what ruin shall come from the king and the LORD?
Further Sayings of the Wise
These also are sayings the wizened men share:
When judgement is made, then the judge should be fair.
Those telling the guilty, You're guiltless, when tried,
are cursed by the people, by nations, decried.
But things will go well when the guilty are jailed,
rich blessings will come to the judge who prevailed.
The one with an answer that's honest and fair
deserves to be kissed on the lips, then and there.
Prepare your work outside, and get your fields tilled,
then afterwards pick up your house plans and build.
Do not sue your neighbor without any cause,
nor lie or spread gossip of his faults or flaws.
Don't say, I will do him as he has done me;
and I will repay him appropriately.
I walked by the field of a fool yesterday,
a lazy man's vineyard I pass on my way;
and, lo, it had thistles and weeds everywhere,
the stone walls were broken and needed repair.
I looked and observing that fool's blighted ground,
in my meditation, this lesson was found:
A little more slumber, a little more rest,
a little more folding of hands on the chest.
Then poverty comes like a thief, unannounced,
and scarcity, like an armed robber, has pounced.
