Proverbs 22
A name is much better than riches untold,
esteem is far better than silver or gold.
The rich and the poor are forever entwined:
the LORD made each one he uniquely designed.
The prudent take cover when dangers arrive,
but simple press on and will never survive.
To those who are humble and fear in the LORD
come riches and honor and life as reward.
The paths of the wicked are littered with nets,
those cautious avoid snares the wicked man sets.
Train up a young child in the ways he should learn,
and when he is old, from that path he'll not turn.
The rich rule the poor since they feed from their hands,
the borrower, slave to the lender's demands.
Those sowing injustice will reap their own doom,
by their rod of rage will themselves be consumed.
The generous man will be blest even more,
because he has shared his own bread with the poor.
Expel those who mock and the strife becomes peace,
abuse and the quarreling also will cease.
Those hearts that are pure with their lips speaking grace
will find, with the king, a true friend to embrace.
The LORD, over knowledge, keeps watch to defend,
but words of the faithless, he'll bring to an end.
The sluggard exclaims, There's a lion out there!
If I go outside, I'll be slain in the square!
The mouth of a harlot's as deep as a pit,
those cursed by the LORD will descend into it.
Sheer folly entangles a young child's heart,
but rods of correction will make it depart.
Exploiting the poor for one's personal gain,
or gifting the rich — it will all be in vain.

Thirty Sayings of the Wise
Saying 1
Give ear to these words of the wise I impart,
and hear my instruction and take them to heart.
How pleasant if you can remember them all,
and fixed to your lips so they're there to recall.
So, that you may trust in the LORD as your stay,
I've made these things known to you — YOU, on this day.
Have I not inscribed thirty sayings for you,
to guide and instruct you on what you should do?
To show you the words are remarkably true,
that you give sound answers to those who've sent you.
and hear my instruction and take them to heart.

crush not the afflicted nor sick at the door.

nor walk with a raging man down any path,
lest you learn his laws and the ways that he's got,
ensnared in his mischief and hopelessly caught.

make no guarantees for another man's debt.

the bed that you sleep in can be snatched away.
