Proverbs 19
Tis better the poor walk without any blame,
than rich who are crooked — they're fools, all the same.
For zeal without knowledge is bad, and a waste;
impatience make men miss the mark in their haste.
A man, for his folly, will be led astray,
then rage against God when things don't go his way.
The rich attract many friends with all they own,
but poor men are friendless and left all alone.
A witness who's false will be punished at last,
and one breathing lies won't escape from his past.
For many seek favors from rulers and kings,
and all are a friend to the giver of things.
The poor, by their kin, will be shunned and despised,
how much more will friends have their friendship excised.
The poor will pursue them with words and with sound,
but they will be gone and they will not be found.
The one who gains wisdom adores his own soul,
those keeping discernment find good, on the whole.
Their doom — what false bearers can never avoid,
and those who breathe lies shall one day be destroyed.
How wrong to have luxury used by a fool;
much worse when a slave, over princes, has rule.
Discretion breeds patience, along with good sense,
man's glory is when he does not take offense.
The rage of a king is a lion's great roar,
his favor, like dew on the earth's grassy floor.
A foolish son ruins his poor father's life,
the constant rain dripping like a nagging wife.
A father divides house and wealth from his love,
but only a prudent wife comes from above.
The ones who are lazy sleep deeply and sound,
the idle are left with a hunger profound.
Obeying commandments keeps your soul alive,
ignore and despise them and you won't survive.
If kind to the poor, then you lend to the LORD,
and he will repay you a handsome reward.
Correct sons and daughters before it's too late,
and don't be responsible aiding their fate.
A hot-headed person must suffer their fine,
deliver them once and you'll do so each time.
Get all the advice and instruction they give,
so you will be wise for as long as you live.
Within a man's mind, there are many things planned,
but know the LORD's purpose forever will stand.
Goodwill is desirable in a man's eyes,
a poor man is better than any who lies.
The fear of the LORD leads to life that is blest:
one safe and content, with no harm to your rest.
The sloth puts his hand in the food bowl, but then
refuses to bring it to his mouth again.
When scorners are whipped, fools are wiser, but sore;
correcting the wise makes them learn even more.
Assaulting his parents and throwing them out,
that son is disgraceful and shameful and lout.
Son, if you stop taking instruction, one day
you will turn your back upon knowledge and stray.
A witness who's worthless scorns justice, when found,
the mouth of the wicked spreads evil around.
The punishment for those who scorn is prepared,
so, likewise, the backs of the fools won't be spared.
