Mary's Treasures
When told that she would bear God’s Son,
Her panic turned to joy.
Imagine that! Her baby boy
would one day save the world!
Her cousin — old and barren,
Would bear a son as well.
And when her womb began to swell —
what gossip must have swirled!
Elizabeth would share her news
With friends and neighbors from the start;
But Mary quietly would choose
To treasure these things in her heart.
As mothers rock their babes to sleep,
What song did Mary sing?
What lullaby would soothe the King
and Ruler of the earth?
Did Mary see that distant glow
Before the shepherds came?
Or hear angelic hosts proclaim
the young Messiah’s birth?
The shepherds shared their news abroad,
Of all they witnessed from the start;
But Mary kissed the Son of God,
And treasured these things in her heart.
Her panic turned to joy.
Imagine that! Her baby boy
would one day save the world!
Her cousin — old and barren,
Would bear a son as well.
And when her womb began to swell —
what gossip must have swirled!
Elizabeth would share her news
With friends and neighbors from the start;
But Mary quietly would choose
To treasure these things in her heart.
As mothers rock their babes to sleep,
What song did Mary sing?
What lullaby would soothe the King
and Ruler of the earth?
Did Mary see that distant glow
Before the shepherds came?
Or hear angelic hosts proclaim
the young Messiah’s birth?
The shepherds shared their news abroad,
Of all they witnessed from the start;
But Mary kissed the Son of God,
And treasured these things in her heart.
But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
