Another Silent Night
Listen to the silence —
It's been four hundred years Since Malachi, the prophet, Foretold the end of tears. Though covenants are broken, God's promise yet remains; The Prince of Peace is coming To break the captive's chains. But when is this Prince coming To aid His people's plight? They pray and hope and wonder — Another silent night. Listen to the silence — For Zechariah's dumb. An angel made him speechless Until he has his son. Though he has been made silent, He needs no other voice: His eyes retell the story; His heart can still rejoice. His son will be a prophet Whose life will be a light To show the way to Jesus — Another silent night. Listen to the silence — As Mary lays in bed Remembering the visit, Recalling what was said. An angel told the virgin That she would bear a son; That He would be the Savior, The long-awaited One. But what about her family? Would Joseph treat her right? Her heart is full of questions — Another silent night. Listen to the silence — As shepherds watch their sheep. Not far away the village Of Bethlehem asleep. They look into the heavens, And count their dreams — like stars: Those twinkling diamond treasures, So near and yet so far. They're waiting for the morning, They're looking for the light, They're longing for salvation — Another silent night. |
An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:9-11 • NIV
