A Simple Prayer
A simple prayer I offer Thee,
This is my humble plea:
That Thou wouldst fill my life until
I be much more like Thee.
And that my world of friends and all
I meet would ever see
A loving heart because Thou art
Made manifest in me.
A simple prayer I offer Thee,
This is my hungry quest:
To set my sight on Thy delight
And do my very best
To overcome all obstacles
Whatever be the test;
Accept Thy hand, what Thou hast planned —
Thy holy name be blest.
A simple prayer I offer Thee,
This is my honest cry:
That I not waste my life encased
Within the serpent’s lie
Of worldly goods and earthly gains —
Yea, let me pass these by;
And store my gold in heaven’s hold
In mansions built on high.
For by Thy grace, Thy strength is mine,
Through faith my hope is one:
For I believe Thou wilt receive
My soul when life is done.
Oh, let me hear Thy tender words,
“Thy final race is run.
Thy journey’s past, at home at last,
Rest easy now, My son.”
This is my humble plea:
That Thou wouldst fill my life until
I be much more like Thee.
And that my world of friends and all
I meet would ever see
A loving heart because Thou art
Made manifest in me.
A simple prayer I offer Thee,
This is my hungry quest:
To set my sight on Thy delight
And do my very best
