          Within a royal palace hall?
          Naught but a wooden stable stall
Amid the noise and stench He lay.
 
The Lord of lords was born today!
          Who heralded the news abroad?
          A great angelic host of God
Told humble shepherds where He lay.
 
The King of kings was born today!
          What did His loyal subjects bring?
          Three foreign strangers following
His star brought gifts to where He lay.
 
The Son of God was born today!
          To rule His Kingdom from His Throne?
          To live unloved and die alone
That He might take our sins away.
