Sweet Angel (My Angel)
I look out through the frosted glass
At the postcard scene below:
The full moon's light make all things bright —
Reflecting off the snow.
I trace your footprints round the yard,
But soon I just lose track.
With outstretched hands — your snowman stands
With scarf and broad-rimmed hat.
And just below the windowpane —
Is the angel that you made:
She'll disappear when morning's here,
And her wind-swept wings will fade.
But I still can hear your words so clear,
That you made her just for me.
Sweet angel, my angel, I bid you goodnight.
May God grant you safety until morning's light.
I cannot describe how your life makes me blest;
But surely the heavens hold one angel less.
I leave the window, dim the lights,
And make my way to bed.
I pass your door but turn once more
To peek inside instead.
I tiptoe softly to your side
And gaze upon your face;
The moonlight shines through open blinds
Revealing charm and grace.
I think back when you first arrived
And came into my life;
Then breathe a prayer for the hugs we share
And the joy I feel tonight.
As I turn to leave I can't believe
God has trusted you to me.
Sweet angel, my angel, I bid you goodnight.
May God grant you safety until morning's light.
I cannot describe how your life makes me blest;
But surely the heavens hold one angel less.
