Psalm 52
For the director of music. A maskil of David. When Doeg the Edomite had gone to Saul and told him: "David has gone to the house of Ahimelek."
Why do you boast of evil, great warrior of men?
Don't you know God's love lasts all day long?
While your razor-sharp tongue slashes time and again;
your deceit does the innocent wrong.
You love evil, not good; favor dark over light;
prefer falsehoods and lies more than truth and what's right.
Selah [Interlude]
You love words that destroy, O you treacherous tongue!
Surely God will destroy you at last.
He'll uproot you from out of your home to be flung —
from the land of the living, be cast.
Selah [Interlude]
And the righteous will see it and stand in dismay;
then they'll scoff and they'll laugh and derisively say:
Look what happens to those mighty men who do not
choose to make God their refuge and trust;
but instead, they rely in the wealth that they've got,
and seek refuge and strength in their lust.
As for me, in God's house, I'm a green olive tree;
and will always trust your love, alone.
I will ever give thanks for what you've done for me.
I will wait on your name with your own.
