Psalm 120

A song of ascents

I called upon Jehovah
the LORD in my despair
in my distress he answered
he harkened to my prayer

deliver me Jehovah
o LORD from lying lips
from lips and tongues deceitful
tongues where deception drips

o tongue what will Jehovah
what will God choose to do
o tongue that is deceitful
how will God punish you

you'll be pierced with sharp arrows
sharp arrows warriors see
those juniper coals burning
are coals of the broom tree

what misery to sojourn
to go to Meshech thence
and dwell with those of Kedar
among the Kedar tents

too long have I been dwelling
with those who hate peace more
I am for peace and speak it
but they just speak of war
