Psalm 116
I love the LORD, because he hears
my plea for mercy that I cry.
Since he's inclined to me his ears,
I'll call on him until I die.
The cords of death entangle me,
and troubles will not let me be.
I'm plagued with thoughts beyond the grave,
and pangs of terror of Sheol.
I called upon the LORD to save
me, LORD have mercy on my soul.
The LORD is kind, and we embrace
our God who's good and full of grace.
The LORD protects the simplest,
and he helped me when I was low.
Return, o soul, and be at rest,
the LORD is good and loves you so.
He's kept me safe each time death calls,
my eyes from tears, my feet from falls.
I walk before the LORD instead,
upon this earth, among the rest.
I kept the faith, LORD, when I said,
I'm deeply troubled and oppressed.
In my alarm, you heard me cry,
All men are false, and all men lie.
What shall I render and give up,
repaying you for such reward?
For I will raise salvation's cup,
and call upon your name, O LORD.
I'll pay the LORD my vows and debt,
before all of his people yet.
How precious in his sight is one
who loves the LORD yet dies indeed.
I've served you as my mother's done;
you've loosed my chains and now I'm freed.
My sacrifice will I prepare,
and call upon the LORD in prayer.
I'll pay the LORD my vows before
the presence of his people then —
within the LORD's court evermore —
within you, O Jerusalem.
Praise the LORD!
my plea for mercy that I cry.
Since he's inclined to me his ears,
I'll call on him until I die.
The cords of death entangle me,
and troubles will not let me be.
I'm plagued with thoughts beyond the grave,
