Proverbs 2
The Value of Wisdom
My son, if you treasure the words that I say,
and keep my commandments and hide them away;
if you pay attention to wisdom you've learned,
applying whatever your heart has discerned;
indeed, if you cry out for wisdom and sense,
and plead for discernment and intelligence;
if you seek to get it like silver that's mined,
and search as for treasure that's buried to find;
then you will discover the fear of the LORD,
the knowledge of God will be yours as reward.
Because LORD Jehovah gives wisdom and sense,
discernment and knowledge come from his lips thence.
He stores up sound wisdom for those who obey,
while shielding the righteous who walk in his way.
Protecting their paths, God sees justice is done;
preserving the way of his saints, every one.
Then you'll understand what is right, just, and fair;
you'll find every good path to go anywhere.
For wisdom will enter your heart and your mind,
and knowledge will fill you with joy, you will find.
Discretion and judgement will watch over you,
discernment will guard you in all that you do,
and wisdom will save you from their wicked way,
from men of perversion and things that they say.
Those men who've forsaken the paths that are right,
but chosen to walk in those paths without light;
delighting in doing what's evil, and worse —
rejoicing in anything that is perverse;
whose paths are as crooked as crooked can be,
and much more deceitful than any can see.
Let wisdom save you from the harlot and whore,
a woman with soft words so hard to ignore;
who leaves her companion of her youth abroad;
the one who abandons her promise to God.
For surely her house sinks and leads down to death,
her ways lead to spirits without any breath.
The men who go see her are not seen again,
and, surely, their paths of life come to an end.
So, follow the steps of the righteous man's way,
upon the straight paths of the godly man, stay.
For in the land only the upright shall dwell,
with those who are perfect and blameless as well.
But God plucks the sinners, like weeds, with his hand,
uprooting the wicked from out of the land.
