Isaiah 56
Salvation for Foreigners
This is what the LORD says:
Isaiah 56:1a • BSB
Be fair and act justly with all whom you meet,
from those in your household to those on the street;
for soon My salvation will come and be known,
My righteousness, too, is about to be shown.
For blest is the man who is careful to do
these things — and his son, who takes hold of them, too;
ensuring the Sabbath is never profaned,
from evil he keeps his hand ever refrained.
from those in your household to those on the street;
for soon My salvation will come and be known,
My righteousness, too, is about to be shown.
For blest is the man who is careful to do
these things — and his son, who takes hold of them, too;
ensuring the Sabbath is never profaned,
from evil he keeps his hand ever refrained.
Let foreigners bound to the LORD never say,
From me will the LORD keep His people away.
And let not the words of a eunuch be said,
Behold, I'm a dry tree, both shriveled and dead.
From me will the LORD keep His people away.
And let not the words of a eunuch be said,
Behold, I'm a dry tree, both shriveled and dead.
For this is what the LORD says:
Isaiah 56:4a • BSB
Those eunuchs who honor My Sabbaths with rest,
those pleasing Me, keeping My vows will be blest —
within My own temple and its holy walls,
I give them great honor from those sacred halls —
far better than daughters and sons they'll not rear,
I give them a name that will not disappear.
those pleasing Me, keeping My vows will be blest —
within My own temple and its holy walls,
I give them great honor from those sacred halls —
far better than daughters and sons they'll not rear,
I give them a name that will not disappear.
And foreigners binding themselves to the LORD,
who worship and love Him of their own accord,
who honor the Sabbath with worship and rest,
and cherish My covenants deep in their breast —
to My holy mountain will I bring them there
and I'll make them joyful in My house of prayer.
Accepted upon My stone altar will be
their sacrificed offerings, burning for Me;
for all, will My house be a temple of prayer.
who worship and love Him of their own accord,
who honor the Sabbath with worship and rest,
and cherish My covenants deep in their breast —
to My holy mountain will I bring them there
and I'll make them joyful in My house of prayer.
Accepted upon My stone altar will be
their sacrificed offerings, burning for Me;
for all, will My house be a temple of prayer.
Thus declares the Lord GOD, who gathers the dispersed of Israel:
Isaiah 56:8a • BSB
I'll bring to them more than those already there.
Israel's Sinful Leaders
Come, beasts of the field, who are searching for meat,
you beasts of the forest, come greedily eat!
For Israel's watchmen are blind and can't see,
they're mindless and witless and dense as can be!
Like watchdogs, are they, who don't bark for their keep,
but lie around dreaming of unending sleep.
Like dogs, they are greedy for more than they've got.
They're ignorant shepherds without any thought;
for personal gain, each one goes his own way,
and, without exception, self-centered, are they.
They say, 'Let's drink wine, and let beer freely pour!
Tomorrow will be like today — only more!'
you beasts of the forest, come greedily eat!
For Israel's watchmen are blind and can't see,
they're mindless and witless and dense as can be!
Like watchdogs, are they, who don't bark for their keep,
but lie around dreaming of unending sleep.
Like dogs, they are greedy for more than they've got.
They're ignorant shepherds without any thought;
for personal gain, each one goes his own way,
and, without exception, self-centered, are they.
They say, 'Let's drink wine, and let beer freely pour!
Tomorrow will be like today — only more!'
