I heard that you were born one day
There, in a feeding crib, you lay
Yet only shepherds from the hillside knew
But later, kings and sages came
With gifts of worship to your name
And knelt before you, singing Hallelujah
You grew in stature, wise, and good
And helped your father fashion wood
And learned what carpenters know how to do
You helped your brothers with the chores
And chased each other out of doors
And into a young man grew Hallelujah
You turned clear water into wine
You cured the sick and healed the blind
And multitudes began to follow you
You caused the lame to leave their bed
You even raised to life the dead
With palm fronds waving, crowds cried Hallelujah
Now, how has it come down to this
Betrayed by such a good friend's kiss
Now all your friends have run away from you
Alone before authority
And stripped of every dignity
But you could call down angels Hallelujah
Upon that cross, between two thieves
Though one rejects you, one believes
You slowly suffocate between the two
A sword brings water, it is done
The world is dark, clouds hide the sun
The final lamb is slain, sing Hallelujah
Entombed, your broken body lay
Until that stone was rolled away
When Mary heard you call her name, she knew
Now we all know the reason why
