Easter Roles

I did not betray you that night in the garden,
nor give you away with a kiss on your cheek.
I did not consider your guilt or your pardon,
nor hammer the spikes through your hands and your feet.

I did not administer your brutal beating,
nor mockingly robe you in purple, O Lord.
I wasn't among your friends, scared and retreating,
the same night that one of them brandished his sword.

Though I had no hand in your cruel crucifixion,
nor was I a part of your friends left to grieve,
still, I have a role in the Easter depiction
as I am a sinner who chose to believe.
