Benedictus
(Zechariah's Song of Prophesy)
Luke 1:68-79
Blessed be Lord Jehovah, and God of our nation,
who has come and has rescued his own.
He has sent us a Savior, a horn of salvation
from the bloodline of king David's throne.
As he's spoken through mouths of his prophets for ages,
from our enemies we will be saved —
from the hand and the clutches of all those who hate us.
Mercy's shown with the promise he gave
to our fathers, by keeping his covenant holy
and his oath that was long ago sworn
to our ancestor, Abraham, for his seed solely
blessing each generation that's born.
We've been saved from the hand of our enemies' fury,
to serve God without fearing their ways;
to live holy and righteous, without any worry
in his presence the rest of our days.
You will be called a prophet of Most High, my child,
and show where the Lord's pathway begins;
giving people the knowledge to be reconciled
through salvation's forgiveness of sins.
Because God's own compassionate mercy's so tender,
like the sunlight that breaks in the east,
for those living in death's darkened shadows surrendered,
and to show us the pathway of peace.
who has come and has rescued his own.
He has sent us a Savior, a horn of salvation
from the bloodline of king David's throne.
As he's spoken through mouths of his prophets for ages,
from our enemies we will be saved —
from the hand and the clutches of all those who hate us.
