An Angel has Spoken

An angel has spoken to Mary tonight,
Fear not, he said calming the girl;
For you have been chosen by God in His might
To bring forth a son in this world.
And, “Jesus”  — you’ll name Him — this heaven-sent Child —
Upon David’s throne He shall reign;
And all that proclaim Him shall be reconciled
And with Him forever remain.

O heavenly messenger — straight from God’s throne,
What news would Jehovah impart?
We’ll take every promise and make them our own —
Forever engraved on our heart.
We’ll take every promise and etch them in stone,
And keep them alive in our heart.

An angel has spoken to Joseph tonight,
Appearing to him by his bed;
His spirit awoken — amazed by the sight —
This vision from God in his head.
The time for fulfilling God’s promise has come —
The shedding of innocent blood;
Take Mary — she’s willing to bear you a son
Conceived by the Spirit of God.

Celestial being from heaven on high
Come, give us the word of our King;
No mountain or valley, not sea nor the sky
Can hinder the path of your wing.
Nor evil constrain you where you wish to fly —
Ambassador of the High King.

An angel has spoken to shepherds tonight,
While watching their sheep in the hills;
The blackness was broken by glorious light —
The thunderous voice gave them chills.
Fear not, stand before me, the Savior of men
Was born in a stable this day.
To God be the glory, for in Bethlehem
You’ll find Him asleep in the hay.

O silent protector, invisible aid,
May God grant you license to stay;
As shadows grow longer and lights start to fade
Preserve us to see a new day.
Though darkness surrounds us, we’ll not be afraid;
God keep us in your care, we pray.
